چکیده

In this paper, we study the G/GI/N queue in the Halfin-Whitt regime. Our first result is to obtain a deterministic fluid limit for the properly centered and scaled number of customers in the system which may be used to provide a first order approximation to the queue length process. Our second result is to obtain a second order stochastic approximation to the number customers in the system in the Halfin-Whitt regime. This is accomplished by first centering the queue length process by its deterministic fluid limit and then normalizing by an appropriate factor. We then proceed to obtain an alternative but equivalent characterization of our limiting approximation which involves the renewal function associated with the service time distribution. This alternative characterization reduces to the diffusion process obtained by Halfin and Whitt [6] in the case of exponentially distributed service times. Heavy-tailed queues in the Halfin-Whitt regime

We consider the FCFS GI/GI/n queue in the Halfin-Whitt heavy traffic regime, in the presence of heavy-tailed distributions (i.e. infinite variance). We prove that under minimal assumptions, i.e. only that processing times have finite 1 + moment for some > 0 and inter-arrival times have finite second moment, the sequence of stationary queue length distributions, normalized by n 1 2 , is tight in...

A Fair Policy for the G/GI/N Queue with Multiple Server Pools

We consider the G/GI/N queue with multiple server pools, each possessing a poolspecific service time distribution. The class of non-idling routing policies which we consider are referred to as u-greedy policies. These policies route incoming customers to the server pool with the longest weighted cumulative idle time in order to equitably spread incoming work amongst the server pools in the syst...

Asymptotic Analysis of Queueing Systems with Reneging: A Survey of Results for FIFO, Single Class Models

In this paper, we survey results for the GI/GI/N + GI queueing model. Our focus is on finding situations in which simple performance measure approximations can be developed. To do this, we study the behavior of the GI/GI/N + GI queue in the conventional heavy traffic and Halfin-Whitt limit regimes, and we also discuss the overloaded regime in which there is a single server as well as the overlo...

(G/GI/N(+GI)) queues with service interruptions in the Halfin-Whitt regime

We study G/GI/N (+GI ) queues with alternating renewal service interruptions in the Halfin–Whitt regime. The systems experience up and down alternating periods. In the up periods, the systems operate normally as the usual G/GI/N (+GI ) queues with non-idling first-come–first-served service discipline. In the down periods, arrivals continue entering the systems, but all servers stop functioning ...
